New opportunities for research on Heritage materials using third generation synchrotron imaging capabilities
[presto disponibile il ppt]

Materials studied for cultural Heritage research are usually highly heterogeneous and require a range of complementary techniques to be analysed. In most cases non-destructive methods are preffered either to preserve the integrity of the objects (non-invasive analysis) or to enable subsequent characterisation of the same sample. Alternatively micro-destructive methods will be chosen.

In both regards photon techniques are well suited to analyse a very wide range of ancient materials, and extremely high perfomance is obtained using synchrotron techniques that allow a strongly improved analytical sensitivity, simultaneous multi-technique characterisation and 2-d 3-d or time-resolved imaging.
